Sunday, 29June14 – parish nursing 101

miki soos logoSue Allen and amos acree will introduce the concept of parish nursing, also known as faith-community nursing. They will share their experience of integrating faith and health/wholeness. You will be made aware of simple ways to complete the plan God has for you.

Sue Allen RN began her interest in wellness ministries in 1996. In 2001, she had the opportunity to participate in the first Parish Nurse training program offered in Western New York. What a blessing that experience provided. By 2002, she, along with five other class participants, introduced the Parish Nurse Institute of Western New York. The organization’s title later changed to Parish Nurse Ministries of New York, Inc.

In addition to introducing a wellness ministry at East Aurora First Baptist Church, Sue has served as parish nurse at East Aurora Christian Church. Currently she coordinates the Stretcher Bearer Health Ministry at Good Shepherd Community of Faith, where she I also a member. Sue is currently vice-president for the Parish Nurse Ministries of New York, Inc., and has also filled multiple other positions.

Sue has greater than thirty years of experience in long-term care nursing. This includes two years with Hospice..

For Sue, a Wellness Ministry/Parish Nursing means caring for the whole person—sharing one another’s burdens; providing presence, support and encouragement; listening; helping one another feel God’s loving, healing power, especially in times of despair.

Sue is married and has three adult children

amos acree — ordained (and retired) Disciple/UCC pastor; former Hospice RN; Faith Community Nurse consultant for United Church Home Society; Treasurer, Parish Nurse Ministry of NY. Member Riverside Salem UCC/Disciple and East Aurora Christian Church.
